Selective Block Techniques of Urethral Sphincter Contractions in Sacral Anterior Root Stimulation

Conventional sacral anterior root stimulation (SARS) results in simultaneous activation of both, the detrusor muscle and the external urethral sphincter. We evaluated the possibilities of different neurostimulation techniques to overcome the stimulation induced detrusor-sphincter-dyssynergia and to achieve a physiological voiding. The literature was reviewed on different techniques of sacral an...

Recto-anal motility responses in the Göttingen minipig by selective stimulation of the ventral sacral nerve roots

Electrical stimulation of sacral roots for electrodefecation results in simultaneous activation of the rectum and the external anal sphincter. The sphincter contraction hinders evacuation of the rectum. In this study anodal blocking has been used to reduce the activation of the external anal sphincter. Using a tripolar cuff electrode and monophasic rectangular current pulses in 7 acute minipigs...

The Effect of Different tDCS Protocols on Drug Craving and Cognitive Functions in Methamphetamine Addicts

Background and objective: Drug craving is considered to be a major problem in addiction treatment. Neuroimaging research has revealed various areas for drug craving, among which two key areas are the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) and the cerebellum. The DLPFC is involved in different cognitive tasks like the inhibitory control over seductive options harboring the promise of immediate r...

Does the Longer Application of Anodal-Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation Increase Corticomotor Excitability Further? A Pilot Study

Introduction: Anodal transcranial direct current stimulation (a-tDCS) of the primary motor cortex (M1) has been shown to be effective in increasing corticomotor excitability. Methods: We investigated whether longer applications of a-tDCS coincide with greater increases in corticomotor excitability compared to shorter application of a-tDCS. Ten right-handed healthy participants received one se...

Investigating the Effect of Anodal tDCS on Sustained Attention in Patients with MS

Multiple sclerosis is a de-myelinating inflammatory condition of the central nervous system that is often thought of as an autoimmune disorder. These patients suffer from extensive cognitive impairments such as poor attention and concentration and memory and processing speed; Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the anodic effect of direct cortical electrical stimulation (tDCS) o...
